首先,在制作工艺来讲,晶片大小以及晶片厚薄与晶振的频率密切相关,相对来说,石英晶振的频率越高,需要的石英晶片越薄。比如40MHz的石英晶体所需的晶片厚度是41.75微米,这样的厚度還算可以做到,但100MHz的石英晶体,所需的晶片厚度则是16.7微米。即使厚度可做到但损耗非常高,制作出来的成品轻轻一跌晶片就碎裂。所以一般在高频的晶体就要采用三次泛音、五次泛音、七次泛音的技术来达到了。
